Our approach
A comprehensive approach to online learning
If there is one standout lesson among many learned during the pandemic it is this: our community - parents, students, teachers and administrative staff - has responded with remarkable initiative, determination and resilience. It is a reality that will leave a lasting impression on Walden’s community.
Our collective ability to pivot from the intimacy of face-to-face learning to online learning is testament to the underpinnings of education at our school. In our endeavours to make good people we rely on everyone to approach new and challenging circumstances with good will, patience and a determination to move forward with commitment.
While we’d all love to know exactly what the future will bring, we can be certain of two things:
1.Online learning will remain a part of our teaching programmes - think of those snow days and when your child is down with the sniffles - learning can continue!
2.Walden’s balanced world class education, with a unique focus on wellness will continue to empower students to imagine, explore and achieve a peaceful and sustainable future.

1 | Is Walden continuing its Online Learning Programme? When there is a disruption to on-campus learning, e.g., inclement weather, pandemic or other events, our mix of synchronous (real time) and asynchronous (independent) activities will provide students a full-day programme. |
2 | What happens if the campus doesn’t reopen in September? It is our plan that we’ll all be back together on campus come September. We are mindful that physical distancing measures will need to be in place to comply with Public Health policy. However, we are in the same boat as you in being unsure about how the COVID-19 situation will evolve. As a result, our Online Learning Programme will be available in the event of a disruption to face-to-face learning to ensure learning continues through the 2021/2022 school year. |
3 | Is every student obligated to attend Online sessions? Yes. Students are obligated to attend Online sessions just as if they were on campus. We recommend that students maintain regular contact with their teachers to monitor their progress. |
4 | Will the kids have an opportunity to participate in learning/activities with their classmates? Yes, students will be connected to their classmates. The level of group work will depend on grade level and the nature of the lessons. Students will be able to connect with classmates daily. |
5 | How does the synchronous programme work? Online classes are conducted in real time. Teachers and students will log in to a single online platform and carry out discussions and learning. |
6 | How does the asynchronous programme work? Students learn and discover in their own time as teachers provide them with videos, presentations and other learning materials. |
7 | How do we support our children/students well-being? Help your child establish a daily routine to support their learning and allow them ownership over their use of time. Speak regularly to your child about their wellbeing, their concerns or challenges with their Online Learning. Communicate concerns or questions with your child’s teacher via email. Teachers will be keeping regular hours and will be available to respond Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m |
8 | How do I help my child complete their work? Support your child in completing assignments with integrity and academic honesty. The students understand that teachers expect them to demonstrate their learning to the best of their abilities. Support your child’s learning by reminding them of the expectations and guiding them when they need assistance. And, while your assistance is appreciated we do not expect you to assume the role of teacher! |
