OPEN MINDS. OPEN DOORS.

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” ― Aristotle, Metaphysics

Since I first put pen to paper for the last three posts my objective was to arrive at a destination with one clear thought.

As it turns out, and with an emphatic nod to Aristotle, the landing place is an invitation to our readers revolving around open minds and open doors.

This invitation has a dual purpose. The first purpose relates to open doors and enlisting your support in sharing the story of our school. On November 2, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we will host an Open House when we will offer tours and meet the teacher sessions. We have wonderful allies in our mission to make good people and you are foremost among them.

As we continue to grow and evolve our school, your willingness to let friends, family, co-workers and neighbours know your thoughts about Walden by suggesting they witness first-hand what we’re capable of is so appreciated and welcomed. The nature and character of the families we add to our community is critical and put very simply, we’d love to meet more folks just like you!

The second purpose is to reiterate how very much we value an approach to education that supports even our youngest students in keeping an open mind while curiously learning about the many wonderful differences that exist in our world.

Our challenging curriculum is designed to develop students’ intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills, equipping them for success. With a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning, we prepare our students for higher education and beyond, encouraging them to become compassionate and active citizens who can contribute positively to society.

And we consistently offer them motivation and stimulus to explore avenues of learning that can take them to wonderful places. That only happens though when we all approach the opportunities and challenges that confront us with an open mind.

I never envisioned writing a post quoting Aristotle and Frank Zappa. But here I am…that’s what an open mind will do for you.

“A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it is not open.” ― Frank Zappa
